Psalm 65
Praise, Power and Provisions
PRAISE because:
He hears our prayers.- Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto me and I will answer thee and shew thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not” 1John 3:22-23 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment. That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another as he gave us commandment.” He hears our call in times of trouble, sorrow, heartache and our praise in times of joy.
He Promises forgiveness.- He forgives our transgressions (sin)we all have sinned. 1 John 1:9 “ If we confess sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
He seeks us.- He searches for all to offer the gift of salvation.- Titus 2:11 : For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.” 2Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some man count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
His Power.- He spoke and the world was created. In the storms at sea with the apostles, He Jesus spoke and the sea immediately because calm and peaceful. He can handle the mountains and seas we face daily in life, trust Him.
His provisions. – He provides all we need. He waters the earth to bring forth our food, He feeds the animals in the pastures . He (Jesus) God the Son came to earth, willing to take our place in God’s judgement of our sin. He was crucified on the cross in our place to suffer our penalty for our sin. Mathew 28. Each one must decide whether he will accept the payment for sin that Jesus offers to all. There is no other way. We can’t work to earn it, no religion or church can provide it. Our forgiveness comes only when we admit, confess to God our sin and ask His forgiveness. There is no other hope only forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Have you personally trusted Christ alone for forgiveness and salvation, there is no other hope.

CHRIST ALONE
Waiting on God to fulfill His promises. He has promised us a way of salvation, the forgiveness of our sin, our sin nature with which we were all born and our sins committed. He only is our foundation and salvation , its Christ alone! Nothing added not church membership, not church or religious rituals, not personal works or practices. Apart from the shed blood and death of Christ on the cross of Calvary we have no hope, but only an eternity of torment in Hell for our sin. He has given us a promise and will complete that promise. He also is our defense against the attacks of satan both direct and indirect, through our own minds and thoughts to destroy our testimony. God has given us directions for daily living as our defense. He is our refuge vs 7 our place to go in times of trouble and danger. Trust in Him, tell Him all our problems, our doubts and our feelings. As the old preacher C.H. Spurgeon said “God graciously rewards the poor, imperfect works of His people we see in it a clear display of mercy” . Our efforts to avoid things which can lead to our spiritual etc hurt, our efforts to study to know His will and learn more about Him, our efforts to reach out to others in love with His message. He in mercy rewards our less than perfect efforts. Let’s keep Him in our focus daily, hourly, moment by moment. Psalm 62;1 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. 3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence. 4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah. 5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. 9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. 10 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. 11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. 12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

Four words in life
Desire, tears, why and hope are four words that are part our lives that we all experience at times. DESIRE, what is your main desire in life, remember time and actions reveal the truth so lets be honest with ourselves. Many people profess Christianity but do you have a desire, or as the psalmist says a thirst for God (Psalm 42). Two questions; do you have a desire to spent time with the Bible reading and praying personally? What priority is attendance in Church to hear the Bible taught and preached , and singing praised to God? TEARS, we all experience heartaches, disappointments, sorrow and just some hard times in this life. Some falsely teach that as Christians we will not have those times but hard times come to all one way or another, just read the examples in the Bible of men who were dedicated to God. That leads to the third word WHY the psalmist ask of himself why am I cast down set aside, without any present hope for the future. Why am I disquieted no rest for the mind, spirit ,emotions, no peace of heart just troubled in life. In all the psalmist troubles he begins to think that God has forgotten him and he is all alone. In the depths of his troubles he reminds himself as we also should to look to God. HOPE in God. As we read Gods’ Word the Bible and many times the testimonies and experiences of others our hope is renewed our spirit is lifted. The Word of God as we read it think on it and remember Gods love and care for us and His promised faithfulness our hope is restored, it may take time. But we must wait patiently on God to provide the hope encouragement and the relief it will come. Whatever the day brings remember the psalmists’ admonition hope in God. Psalm 42 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. 7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. 8 Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. 9 I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? 10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God? 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

The psalmist (Ps 31) is committed to trust in the Lord. Trust can be good or bad it depends on what or who we trust. We daily put our trust in things we can’t see elevator cables, brakes on cars, planes most of the time it works well. Occasionally they fail injuries and death follow. We put trust in people and at times they fail our trust and hurts and disappointments follow. Many today are trusting in their faith, good lives, works and religion for salvation, forgiveness and a future place in heaven. But sadly when one trust in the wrong things they fail to achieve the desired results. When we really put our trust in God we are secure no matter what happens. He is our rock, foundation and fortress. When troubles come as the psalmist in verse 9 cries to God for mercy. The hard thing to face at times is that even as Christians troubles, heartache, hurts and sorrow will come our way. The bad things that come our way may not be because of what we are doing or have done or have not done. It may be the results of the actions of others. God is in control nothings happens with out Him allowing it, but that does not mean it’s His will. He wants all saved and living according to His Word but that doesn’t because man has freedom of choice and those choices often cause hurt and sorrow to the innocent. But we put our trust in God even when we don’t understand or see the end. Romans 8:28”And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Trust, we are preserved and rewarded Ps 31:23, Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart all ye that hope in the Lord. Be sure of your relationship with Christ and be ready to meet Him. Keep looking up. Psalm 31 In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness. 2 Bow down Your ear to me,
Deliver me speedily; Be my rock of refuge, A fortress of defense to save me.
3 For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake,
Lead me and guide me. 4 Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, For You are my strength. 5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. 6 I have hated those who regard useless idols; But I trust in the LORD. 7 I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, For You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities, And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy;
You have set my feet in a wide place. 9 Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am in trouble; My eye wastes away with grief, 10 For my life is spent with grief,
And my years with sighing; My strength fails because of my iniquity,
And my bones waste away. 11 I am a reproach among all my enemies,
But especially among my neighbors, And am repulsive to my acquaintances;
Those who see me outside flee from me. 12 I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel. 13 For I hear the slander of many;
Fear is on every side; While they take counsel together against me,
They scheme to take away my life. 14 But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD;
I say, “You are my God.” 15 My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me. 16 Make Your face shine upon Your servant; Save me for Your mercies’ sake. 17 Do not let me be ashamed, O LORD, for I have called upon You; Let the wicked be ashamed;
Let them be silent in the grave. 18 Let the lying lips be put to silence, Which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
19 Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men! 20 You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence
From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues. 21 Blessed be the LORD For He has shown me His marvelous kindness in a strong city! 22 For I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before Your eyes”; Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications When I cried out to You. 23 Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints! For the LORD preserves the faithful, And fully repays the proud person.
24 Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.

HOPE
God is our hope, our foundation, we cry/plead to Him in our times of need. The Psalmist here ask God to let him know that He hears his cry. False religions at times just keep repeating prayers given but have no assurance that their god hears their voice. We as the Psalmist want to know personally that our cry to God is heard. We have the promises that He will hear but we want personal confirmation, its’ God let me know today that you have heard my request. Let me not be drawn away with the ungodly and hypocrites. Lord you give them according to their deeds, let them reap what they sow. As with the Psalmist we ask God to not let the wicked, ungodly succeed in their paths against godliness. In our today we pray that those who desire to remove Gods’ influence and acknowledgement from our society not accomplish their goals, that Christianity has no voice of influence in our countries way of life. Now it openly accepts false religions but wants Christianity silenced in public. Then in verse 6 Psalm 28 the Psalmist shows his faith, trust that God has heard his request, that the Lord is our strength to overcome Satan’s temptations as he uses others to attack and discourage us and the Lord is our shield of protection against things that come against us to take us down in our walk with Christ. The last couple of verse are his praise to God for who He is and what He does for Believers walking with Him. Let’s trust, walk and find our comfort and strength in Him. Psalm 28 Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit. 2 Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle. 3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts. 4 Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert. 5 Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up. 6 Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. 8 The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed. 9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.

Satisfied in Life

Psalm 23 is mostly likely one of the best know passages in the Bible, Today just some thoughts as it’s read. SATISFIED; vs 1 My shepherd, there must be a time and place where He became your shepherd, when you realized your need for a Saviour and accepted Him as your only hope and full payment for sin. Be also sure our wants are in line with His wants for us at the time.  REFRESHING; vs 2 Rest in green pastures and still waters, our refreshing comes as we spent time reading, mediating on the Bible, His letters to us.  RESTORED;vs 3a  Fellowship awaits us when we fail, if we confess it to Him alone and He will forgive and restore our fellowship with Him, that’s love. GUIDANCE: vs 3b When our fellowship is right with Him He guides us down the right path the way of righteous living. COMFORT: vs 4  Christians need to fully understand that in this life we as others in the past and in many places today will go through some actural horrors in life. At these times we can find comfort in our relationship with Christ, and yes there will be hurts, heartaches and troubles in this life. He never promised smooth sailing but only a secure vessel. PROVISIONS; vs 5 He provides what we actually need at the time and what is best for us. Our attitudes and action in times of trouble may be a testimony to others that we know nothing about.  SECURITY;  vs 6a Our body guards and companions though life goodness and mercy are with us all our lives each day, they guide and protect, even when we don’t know it or understand the events. HOPE; vs 6b Our future is secure and glorious to be in the actual visible presence of the LORD Himself forever.

Psalm 23  The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest  my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Trust but verify was Presidents Reagan strategy in dealing with some foreign governments. This was good advice then and would be good advice for today with our government officials. It’s also good advice for Christians today as it was when the apostle wrote” believe not every spirit but try the spirits”. Just because some teaching sounds good we each must test it with the whole Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to show us the truth. We can be assured He will if we are sincere in our wanting to really know. There are many false spirits/teachers out today teaching a false gospel, false doctrine and false lifestyles for those claiming to be Christian. The true gospel includes the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He alone is the only way to God, the one and only mediator between God and man. Mans only hope rest alone in the shed blood of Jesus at Calvary. Any who deny or reject it are lost and will spend eternity in hell, the lake of fire. Some of the doctrines and lifestyles taught and accepted are against what the Bible presents. The wonderful thing about the Bible is that anyone, yes anyone willing to read, study and pray will be taught the truth by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God will reveal to those whether what they are hearing or reading from others is the truth. God calls and uses many teachers and preachers to help us along our way as we desire to learn His Word. We can avoid error as we verify with the Scriptures what we hear while relying upon the Holy Spirit as our final teacher. The apostle Paul (Acts 17:11) praised the believers at Bera because “..they received the Word with all readiness of mind and searched the Scriptures daily whether those things were so.” They took time to verify that even what Paul and Silas were teaching was in accordance with the Scriptures. Oh, that is what id desperately needed for Christians today, verify. Satan uses counterfeits , and the closer to the truth they are the better to be accepted. Satan’s goal is to keep people from receiving Christ and to lead Believers away into false teaching and away from Christ. Beware, Trust, Verify. The Bible is our sure foundation. The hymn, the Bible Stands
1. The Bible stands like a rock undaunted
’Mid the raging storms of time;
Its pages burn with the truth eternal,
And they glow with a light sublime.
2. The Bible stands like a mountain tow’ring
Far above the works of men;
Its truth by none ever was refuted,
And destroy it they never can.
3. The Bible stands and it will forever,
When the world has passed away;
By inspiration it has been given,
All its precepts I will obey.
4. The Bible stands every test we give it,
For its Author is divine;
By grace alone I expect to live it,
And to prove and to make it mine.

o Refrain:
The Bible stands though the hills may tumble,
It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble;
I will plant my feet on its firm foundation,
For the Bible stands.
