PLEA, PRAISE AND PROMISE

Psalm 67

THE PLEA vs 1-2

Our first relationship with God begins with our asking for His mercy towards us. We accept the fact that we have sinned and are under His coming judgement, hell for eternity. Its’ then we realize we have no other hope for forgiveness than Jesus Christ who paid our penalty for sin. We then ask God foe mercy, because we have nothing to offer for ourselves. Then rely on His promises that never fail. To know more about Him and His ways we must read/study the Bible ourselves time alone with the Bible and God.

THE PRAISE vs 3

Praise follow as knowledge of God and His ways increases.  He will judge all people with righteous judgement, His judgement will never be wrong . He knows the truth and all circumstances we face. He is in control of all that happen and also allows people to do wrong things. Remember the day is coming when all will give account for thing done whether good or bad. When we accept Christ as our and the only Saviour, our past sin is forgiven and He will remember them no more.  Now we our desire is to live in ways that will be pleasing to Him. Because of Christ paying the penalty for our sin we will praise and worship Him freely.

THE PROMISE vs 6

When we are in the right relationship with God that is nothing between us.  All sin unconfessed hinders that fellowship with Christ. The hymn writer Charles Tindley put it clearly in the hymn Nothing Between my soul and my Saviour.

  1. Nothing between my soul and my Savior,
    Naught of this world’s delusive dream;
    I have renounced all sinful pleasure;
    Jesus is mine, there’s nothing between.
  2. Nothing between, like worldly pleasure;
    Habits of life, though harmless they seem,
    Must not my heart from Him ever sever;
    He is my all, there’s nothing between.
  3. Nothing between, like pride or station;
    Self or friends shall not intervene;
    Though it may cost me much tribulation,
    I am resolved, there’s nothing between.
  4. Nothing between, e’en many hard trials,
    Though the whole world against me convene;
    Watching with prayer and much self-denial,
    I’ll triumph at last, there’s nothing between.

Refrain:
Nothing between my soul and my Savior,
So that His blessed face may be seen;
Nothing preventing the least of His favor;
Keep the way clear! Let nothing between

PRAISE TO GOD vs 1-2
Praise because of who he is and the love He has shown to /for us. True Christians should have joy because of our salvation from the penalty of sin. Our joy and thankfulness should not be silent. Share with others both believers and unbelievers what Christ has done and is doing for you.
WORSHIP TO GOD vs 3-4
He is awesome, we can’t comprehend how great and holy He is. It’s beyond our ability, but knowing what we do know through the Bible and creation around us we worship Him and give Him reverence. All will submit to Him eventually but for some it will be to late for salvation and forgiveness.
WORKS OF GOD vs 5-12
He turned the river into dry land for the Israelites to cross. He rules over all even the wicked He allows for a time. He secures the Believer so they will stand, He purifies us sometimes through trials.
OUR COMMITMENT TO GOD vs 13-17
When you accept His salvation and commit yourself to God, be sure to follow through with what you have promised. Share your testimony of what God has done for you to all people at every opportunity. Make opportunities, bring it up when talking with others.
OUR FELLOWSHIP WITH God VS 17-20
Unconfessed and unforsaken sin shuts the door between you and God. Confession to God opens the door between you and God, God will hear our prayers and show mercy to all.

Joyful, singing praises and worship go together when directed toward God. Christianity has joyfulness when we as His children come before Him, we come with Joy. False religions don’t have joy. They go before their gods with solemn fear with no joy. We are to have a certain fearfulness. But we come as His children without fearfulness. We approach without fear but with respect and love, we as His children know we are always welcome.

See His works of creation and power to open a river for the Israelites to cross over, the created universe and His love for us is beyond our comprehension.  He does what is needed for our good to bring us into the right place.

The psalmist declares that after the trials he would still worship and serve the God who keeps him secure. Then we have a sincere solemn warning —if we harbor wrong with our hearts God will not here our prayer request to Him. Don’t allow your problems in relationships with others be one of the things that hinder your relationship with God.  Let nothing come between you and God, keep the way clear.

1 Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: 2 Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.  3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.  4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.  5 Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.  6 He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.  7 He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.  8 O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard: 9 Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.  10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.  11 Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.  12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.  13 I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,  14 Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.  15 I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats. Selah.  16 Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.  17 I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.  18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:  19 But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.  20 Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.

Psalm 65
Praise, Power and Provisions
PRAISE because:
He hears our prayers.- Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto me and I will answer thee and shew thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not” 1John 3:22-23 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment. That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another as he gave us commandment.” He hears our call in times of trouble, sorrow, heartache and our praise in times of joy.
He Promises forgiveness.- He forgives our transgressions (sin)we all have sinned. 1 John 1:9 “ If we confess sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
He seeks us.- He searches for all to offer the gift of salvation.- Titus 2:11 : For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.” 2Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some man count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
His Power.- He spoke and the world was created. In the storms at sea with the apostles, He Jesus spoke and the sea immediately because calm and peaceful. He can handle the mountains and seas we face daily in life, trust Him.
His provisions. – He provides all we need. He waters the earth to bring forth our food, He feeds the animals in the pastures . He (Jesus) God the Son came to earth, willing to take our place in God’s judgement of our sin. He was crucified on the cross in our place to suffer our penalty for our sin. Mathew 28. Each one must decide whether he will accept the payment for sin that Jesus offers to all. There is no other way. We can’t work to earn it, no religion or church can provide it. Our forgiveness comes only when we admit, confess to God our sin and ask His forgiveness. There is no other hope only forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Have you personally trusted Christ alone for forgiveness and salvation, there is no other hope.

OUR PRAYER

The psalmist has three request to God in his prayer, Hear me, preserve me, hide me. Sometimes when burdens and troubles come we also pray, God please hear me. We want assurance that he will actually hear and respond to us at that time. At these times we need to remember and rely on His promises already given in the old and new testament “call unto me and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not:” Jeremiah 33:3. “And  whatsoever you shall ask in my name that will I do that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye ask anything in my name I will do it” John14:13-14. These promises come with a condition “If I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me. Ps 66:18 The prayer always heard is the prayer for salvation and forgiveness of sin, He is ready to hear.  Preserve me the psalmist second request, in this day and time there are many opportunities for every believer to go into sin. There is easy and “secret” access to things which will destroy our testimony and fellowship with Christ. The internet has opened the free opportunity for satan to publish his devices and also for every Christian to publish what Christ has done for him and will do for all. (Every Christian has a testimony of how you came to salvation, just publish if for others to see amd maybe be helped by it). We all are subject to fail so we constantly ask God to keep us from sin daily. Hide me if the psalmist third request, Satan the wicked one seeks to devour ( 1Peter 5:8)  at times he uses the influences of his own followers, people we know at times our own thoughts, our eyes and ears anything where he can get a small opening to gain access to our lives to destroy our walk with Christ. Our prayer is for God to protect us from Satan’s attacks. Let’s beware of the little things we allow.

EARLY
When we get up in the morning what do we do, some shower, get coffee, eat breakfast before starting out for the day. The Psalmist says to seek God early, that is spend some time with Him, in His Word and prayer early. Before meeting others, if only just a few minutes to get our focus right and ask guidance for the day. There are probably only a few occasions when we really couldn’t take a few minutes. The Psalmist had a thirst for God, as Christians where is our thirst for the one who suffered , bleed and died in love for us. Since we can’t meet Him physically we have the Bible His letters to us and the Holy Spirit within to teach us, give us understanding as we read and pray. To all professing Christians, just ask yourself am I really thirsty for God and His Word. Is my thirst shown by actions, life practices. Because of His love shown to us we praise and bless, glorify and exalt Him is our minds, hearts and to others. Because of all He does and has done for us we rejoice. How can e not share our love foe Him and His love to others. The Psalmist says he follows hard after God. How is our personal commitment to live for Him daily. Ones’ life is changed when we go from a head knowledge of Christ and true acceptance of Jesus Chris as Saviour. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new.” Psalm 63:1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; 2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. 3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. 4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. 5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: 6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. 7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. 8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. 9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. 10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes. 11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

CHRIST ALONE
Waiting on God to fulfill His promises. He has promised us a way of salvation, the forgiveness of our sin, our sin nature with which we were all born and our sins committed. He only is our foundation and salvation , its Christ alone! Nothing added not church membership, not church or religious rituals, not personal works or practices. Apart from the shed blood and death of Christ on the cross of Calvary we have no hope, but only an eternity of torment in Hell for our sin. He has given us a promise and will complete that promise. He also is our defense against the attacks of satan both direct and indirect, through our own minds and thoughts to destroy our testimony. God has given us directions for daily living as our defense. He is our refuge vs 7 our place to go in times of trouble and danger. Trust in Him, tell Him all our problems, our doubts and our feelings. As the old preacher C.H. Spurgeon said “God graciously rewards the poor, imperfect works of His people we see in it a clear display of mercy” . Our efforts to avoid things which can lead to our spiritual etc hurt, our efforts to study to know His will and learn more about Him, our efforts to reach out to others in love with His message. He in mercy rewards our less than perfect efforts. Let’s keep Him in our focus daily, hourly, moment by moment. Psalm 62;1 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. 3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence. 4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah. 5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. 9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. 10 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. 11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. 12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.
