1st John 5:20-21”And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” We know , because the Holy Spirit reveals the truth to Believers, any who sincerely desire to know and follow the truth will be led to the truth. 1Tim 2:14 “Who will have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of the truth”. Titus 2:11 “ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.” Roman 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse .” No one has an excuse for not believing in God and Jesus’ sarifical death on Calvary as full payment for our sins. But people choose not to believe and to reject Christ’s offer of salvation. When we are saved we are said to be in Him and He in us, wherever we are ,go ,do, see He is there with us forever. In closing the apostle admonishes each of us to keep ourselves from idols, that would be anything that is put before God and what He desires in our daily life. As we come to the end of this book lets strive to nave nothing between us and our savior, in time, things, money, people and relationships let all be in accordance with His desires. As the hymn writer put in Nothing Between.
1. Nothing between my soul and my Savior,
Naught of this world’s delusive dream;
I have renounced all sinful pleasure;
Jesus is mine, there’s nothing between.
2. Nothing between, like worldly pleasure;
Habits of life, though harmless they seem,
Must not my heart from Him ever sever;
He is my all, there’s nothing between.
3. Nothing between, like pride or station;
Self or friends shall not intervene;
Though it may cost me much tribulation,
I am resolved, there’s nothing between.
4. Nothing between, e’en many hard trials,
Though the whole world against me convene;
Watching with prayer and much self-denial,
I’ll triumph at last, there’s nothing between.
o Refrain:
Nothing between my soul and my Savior,
So that His blessed face may be seen;
Nothing preventing the least of His favor;
Keep the way clear! Let nothing between.

“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.” 1st John 5:19Salvation is a know so, one knows when he has it, his sins are forgiven and his eternal destiny is in heaven. It’s not I hope so, I think so but I know so. That comes when we are resting not on our efforts to earn it but on the promises of God that the shed blood of Christ pays our penalty in full. As we rely on the promises of God. Doubts may at times come for various reasons. In my case doubts came sometime after I was saved but didn’t get baptized, I had been baptized many years before I really got saved, I used that as an excuse not to get baptized again. Baptism is not a part of salvation but it is in obedience to Christ. One day the doubts came and I started to read John 5:24 “Verily verily I say unto you he that heareth my word and believeth on him that sent me hath everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation but is passed from death unto life.” I read it over many times and underlined it many times finally said to myself I’ve heard His word and I’ve believed on Him. I closed the NT and said to myself if I go to Hell I will go in spite of that verse. (They were just my thoughts at the time). But the Holy Spitit witnessed to my spirit that I was His (Romans 8:16) The doubts vanished and have never returned. Our assurance is based on his sacrifice at Calvary and the promises He has given us in Romans 10:13 . John 3:16 and Romans 8:38-39. We know that there only two groups of people on earth the saved and the unsaved, the unsaved destiny is the torments of Hell for all eternity. Our job given us by God is to present the gospel to the unsaved. We are His ambassadors to the world.

1st John 5:18 “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not: but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”
The question is can or does a Christian sin. As we start here lets define sin; sin is anything against the perfect will and standard of God. They can be things we do or things we should do but don’t do. Now can anyone say he has never sinned since the day he accepted Christ as savior and became a born again Christian. If we take the verse alone in the old King James version, which I love and trust, it indicates that a Christian does not sin. Many problems occur when we take just one verse and ignore the other verses on the subject. So to avoid error we must take and compare it to other scriptures. In 1st John 1:8-10 and in the book of 1st Corinthians it is clear Christians sin. A Christian’s normal life style is not lived in the practice of sin whether by commission or omission. The normal living of the true Christian is keeping himself from sin. He will fail at times but Satan will not continue to lead him astray down the continual path of destruction. A Christian cannot stay in sin apart from God year after year, a Christian living in sin is in danger of physical death as we see in 1st John 5:16 and 1st Corinthians 11. So as a Believer we should set our goal to be as Christ like as we can in our daily walk avoiding that which can lead down the wrong path. Keep a great distance between you and sin, Satan needs only a small crack in the door. Pray much for those we know not walking with God daily, Before I got saved several friend and family prayed that I would become faithful in attending church thinking I was saved already but when I got saved their prayers were answered so don’t assume one not walking with God is saved just pray.

Sin – two classes
Here we have a brother in Christ, we see sinning should we pray for him, that’s the question. The apostle gives two classes of sin; a sin unto death, a sin not unto death. The attitude of judge not is loudly proclaimed in some Christian circles today. But we are to make judgment regarding sin according to God’s Word. There are at least two incidents in the New Testament where sin led to physical death. In Acts 5:1-10 Ananias and Sapphira lied about their giving to the believers, which is also lying to the Holy Spirit they immediately died. The other is at the communion celebration in remembrance of the suffering and death of Jesus 1st Corinthians 11:23-30. Many died because of their attitude and actions at this ceremony. This is a sacred time when believers stop and remember what it cost Jesus to pay for our sin. A time to examine yourself, any know sin to be confessed and forsaken . then take careful though as we take the bread and juice in remembrance of Jesus. This sin unto death may not be clearly defined as to it’s exact nature there are many and various thoughts. So let’s just be extremely careful and not trifle with any sin. A road started down sometimes is difficult to turn around before it’s too late and tragedy strikes. Let’s pray for our love ones and those we see walking in or near sin away from God in their lives. 1st John 5:16-17 “If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death; I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. “

1st john 5:14-15    Confidence

Confidence in prayer stems from our confidence in our personal relationship with God and His promises. Our confidence for our eternal destiny is based only on His promise that the blood of Christ shed at Calvary is the payment in full for our sin, our only hope, the Spirit gives witness with our spirit that we are His, Romans 8:16. Then comes the assurance of our prayers when according to His will give en in His Word. The only way we can truly know God’s will is through the study of His Word. We learn of His desires and  His character. We must understand that just because God desires all to be saved (2nd Peter 3:9) and living according to His daily will for their lives it doesn’t happen because within His sovereignty He has given each man the freedom to choose to accept or reject His will. God is love, love is only voluntary and can never be forced. When we pray according to His revealed will we know that He hears our prayer and we have the petition that we desire. This can be the difficult part for us to see that within Hes will He has allowed men to choose. So we keep praying for those in need of salvation until their death. When we pray for things for self we must be sure their is a need and not greed (James 4:3 “Ye ask, and receive not because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”) Our confidence comes from being sure it is according to the will of God. This is where the health and wealth preachers get it wrong as they teach that God wants all believers to be rich in material things. Their plan is usually you send them money so that God will send you more, and that’s a lie. The way to avoid lies is to know the truth that only comes through study of the Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to confirm the truth to you. That takes time alone with the Bible and prayer.  “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will he heareth us; And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.: 1st John 5:14-15

1st John 5:13
The apostle coming to the end of his letter now gives two reasons for writing. These things have I written that Christians may know that they have eternal life and that thy may believe on Jesus Christ. What things has he written that will give us the assurance of our personal salvation and eternal life? 1. Our daily walk not just our words are the evidence of our relationship and fellowship with God, ch 1:6-. 2. We all will sin either by commission or by omission it’s a fact we must accept as believers to admit it and confess it we get forgiveness to deny it makes us a liar. Ch 1:8-9. 3. You can’t love the world, its views, morality and priorities which neglect and reject God’s Word and be a believer ch 2:15. 4. Believers do not live a normal lifestyle in sin, if your normal life practices are against what God says, it shows you are not a Christian. 5. Love for God will be shown as we love others you can’t love God and hate others ch 4.20. In summary your normal life priorities, attitudes and actions are the evidence of your true beliefs, that is your relationship and fellowship with God. Many look back to a time when they prayed a prayer in a church etc and put their trust in that but the evidence in daily life is lacking. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.” Our assurance of salvation ir relying on the promises in the Word john 3:16 “ God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” We have the Holy Spirit within us confirming our relationship with God. Romans 8:16 “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God;” True belief will be shown in one’s actions in life. 2nd Corinthians 13:5 “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you , except ye be reprobates?” 1st john 5:13 “ These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” The hymn writer spoke of the assurance we can have, in the hymn Blessed Assurance.
Blessèd assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Perfect submission, perfect delight, Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior, all the day long.
Be ready be sure eternity is forever!

Two Classes of People
He that believeth on the Son of God and He that believeth not. To believe, is to be totally convinced of the truth of a thing or person. To believe on Jesus is to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God in the flesh, our substitute in the payment for the penalty of sin. Not just an intellectual belief that could possibly change in the future. It is a total absolute commitment with no other hope. The one that believes will repent that is have a change of attitude toward their sins of commission and omission before God. Then put their only hope of salvation, forgiveness on the work of Jesus in His death burial and resurrection for our sins. True belief will be shown in attitudes and actions James 2:17-18 “Even so faith, if it hath not works is dead, being alone. Yea a man may say, thou hast faith and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” Many people have made difficult and confusing at times what God has made so simple in His Word. Know that you/all people have sinned, Romans 3:10 & 23 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” We all have inherited a nature to sin, violate God’s desires. When we accept that, we repent, desire a change from our sins to live God’s way, we will be sorry for our past way whatever that may include even our own self righteousness. Believe on Jesus, that is total trust for forgiveness in His shed blood at Calvary on the Cross. There is no other hope, nothing to be added. John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Those who don’t believe have considered God a liar in their rejection of the record that God has given of His Son. The record is that God has given to us all who will receive it eternal life and that life is in His Son, who paid the price for our sin. “10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” As the hymn writer said it so true in There’s Room at the Cross, for any and all who will come.
The cross upon which Jesus died Is a shelter in which we can hide
And its grace so free is sufficient for me And deep is its fountain as wide as the sea.

Though millions have found him a friend And have turned from the sins they have sinned The Savior still waits to open the gates And welcome a sinner before it’s too late.

The hand of my Savior is strong And the love of my Savior is long
Through sunshine or rain, through loss or in gain, The blood flows from Calvary to cleanse every stain.
There’s room at the cross for you
There’s room at the cross for you
Though millions have come, there’s still room for one
Yes there’s room at the cross for you.
Have you or will come?
