1st John 5:13
The apostle coming to the end of his letter now gives two reasons for writing. These things have I written that Christians may know that they have eternal life and that thy may believe on Jesus Christ. What things has he written that will give us the assurance of our personal salvation and eternal life? 1. Our daily walk not just our words are the evidence of our relationship and fellowship with God, ch 1:6-. 2. We all will sin either by commission or by omission it’s a fact we must accept as believers to admit it and confess it we get forgiveness to deny it makes us a liar. Ch 1:8-9. 3. You can’t love the world, its views, morality and priorities which neglect and reject God’s Word and be a believer ch 2:15. 4. Believers do not live a normal lifestyle in sin, if your normal life practices are against what God says, it shows you are not a Christian. 5. Love for God will be shown as we love others you can’t love God and hate others ch 4.20. In summary your normal life priorities, attitudes and actions are the evidence of your true beliefs, that is your relationship and fellowship with God. Many look back to a time when they prayed a prayer in a church etc and put their trust in that but the evidence in daily life is lacking. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.” Our assurance of salvation ir relying on the promises in the Word john 3:16 “ God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” We have the Holy Spirit within us confirming our relationship with God. Romans 8:16 “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God;” True belief will be shown in one’s actions in life. 2nd Corinthians 13:5 “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you , except ye be reprobates?” 1st john 5:13 “ These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” The hymn writer spoke of the assurance we can have, in the hymn Blessed Assurance.
Blessèd assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Perfect submission, perfect delight, Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior, all the day long.
Be ready be sure eternity is forever!

Two Classes of People
He that believeth on the Son of God and He that believeth not. To believe, is to be totally convinced of the truth of a thing or person. To believe on Jesus is to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God in the flesh, our substitute in the payment for the penalty of sin. Not just an intellectual belief that could possibly change in the future. It is a total absolute commitment with no other hope. The one that believes will repent that is have a change of attitude toward their sins of commission and omission before God. Then put their only hope of salvation, forgiveness on the work of Jesus in His death burial and resurrection for our sins. True belief will be shown in attitudes and actions James 2:17-18 “Even so faith, if it hath not works is dead, being alone. Yea a man may say, thou hast faith and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” Many people have made difficult and confusing at times what God has made so simple in His Word. Know that you/all people have sinned, Romans 3:10 & 23 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” We all have inherited a nature to sin, violate God’s desires. When we accept that, we repent, desire a change from our sins to live God’s way, we will be sorry for our past way whatever that may include even our own self righteousness. Believe on Jesus, that is total trust for forgiveness in His shed blood at Calvary on the Cross. There is no other hope, nothing to be added. John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Those who don’t believe have considered God a liar in their rejection of the record that God has given of His Son. The record is that God has given to us all who will receive it eternal life and that life is in His Son, who paid the price for our sin. “10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” As the hymn writer said it so true in There’s Room at the Cross, for any and all who will come.
The cross upon which Jesus died Is a shelter in which we can hide
And its grace so free is sufficient for me And deep is its fountain as wide as the sea.

Though millions have found him a friend And have turned from the sins they have sinned The Savior still waits to open the gates And welcome a sinner before it’s too late.

The hand of my Savior is strong And the love of my Savior is long
Through sunshine or rain, through loss or in gain, The blood flows from Calvary to cleanse every stain.
There’s room at the cross for you
There’s room at the cross for you
Though millions have come, there’s still room for one
Yes there’s room at the cross for you.
Have you or will come?

Three witnesses
Two or three witnesses were required to confirm an important matter in the O.T. Deut 17:6, 19:15.The apostle here brings three witnesses to confirm the deity of Jesus Christ. In heaven the Father, the Word(Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. On earth the Father confirmed Jesus was His Son at His baptism. The Spirit confirms the deity of Jesus in the hearts of men. The Water could refer to baptism, a testimony to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Water could also refer to the Word of God as we are washed and cleansed by the Word. The Blood as in the ordinance of communion, we remember the scourging and the shedding of His blood at Calvary in payment for our sins. And to remember His promise of His return. These all point to Jesus Chris as the Son of God paying the penalty of sin for all mankind who will receive it. In court trials witnesses are brought in to testify to the alleged truth being proclaimed. Some witnesses will be believed others will be questionable. God’s witness written and confirmed by the Holy Spirit is a sure trustworthy witness we can rely on. The question also before each of us is our own witness is it believable or questionable with regards to what we proclaim as professed Christians. How is our witness professed and live in reference to; the Bible, the Church, Heaven and Hell? Does our daily living priorities support what we profess? 1st John 5:7-9 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his son.” As the hymn writer put it for our witness.
1. I know not why God’s wondrous grace To me He hath made known,
Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love Redeemed me for His own.
2. I know not how this saving faith To me He did impart,
Nor how believing in His Word Wrought peace within my heart.
3. I know not how the Spirit moves, Convincing men of sin,
Revealing Jesus through the Word, Creating faith in Him.
4. I know not what of good or ill May be reserved for me,
Of weary ways or golden days, Before His face I see.
5. I know not when my Lord may come, At night or noonday fair,
Nor if I walk the vale with Him, Or meet Him in the air.
o Refrain:
But “I know Whom I have believed, And am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I’ve committed Unto Him against that day.”
We can believe the witness God has given us in the Bible and the Holy Spirit confirms in to every man Titus 2:11-12. As we look at the world today and see things lining up to be like they will be in the tribulation period, after the Rapture of Believers . Be sure you are ready only two options for eternity …Heaven or Hell.

Jesus came to the earth, became a man through the virgin birth for one reason, to be the substitute in the punishment for our sin. He came by water, by baptism He identified with us. Water was used in the Old Testament law in ceremonies for purification and cleansing. Jesus offered the woman at the well (John 4) living water to quench thirst and provide life forever. In washing the disciples feet He said if I wash you not you have no part in me (John 13:8). In healing the blind man He told him to go wash in the pool of Slioam (John9:7). Washing with water is symbolic to cleansing and purification. We need to be cleansed daily as was the washing of feet, it cleansed the daily dirt, sins of omission and commission in thoughts and actions. He came by blood, His blood that would be shed in the scourging and on the cross of Calvary Matthew 27. From the time Adam and Eve sinned blood was shed to receive forgiveness and be restored into fellowship with God. The Israelites offered thousands and thousands of animals as sacrifices seeking forgiveness, trusting in the promise of God. Jesus the Son of God came to offer the full and final payment of sins penalty. Water is a must for cleansing and living. No one can live more than a few days without water. The Christian must have the Word of God to cleanse and live spiritually. “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world” Titus 2:11-12. “Now are ye clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” John 15:3
1st John 5:6”This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness because the Spirit is truth.”
Nothing But the Blood
What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

For my pardon, this I see, Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Nothing can for sin atone, Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

This is all my hope and peace, Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

The Christian life can be compared to the winning team of a football game. Many mistakes, many failures and some successes, it’s a constant battle with the opposition. But when the time runs out they are finally victorious over the opposition. In life there are only two sides(teams) God’s and Satan’s. You and I are on one of them, no one can be neutral .Luke 11:23 “He that is not with me is against me;…”. The cost paid so we could be on the winning side was tremendous, the suffering and death of God’s Son Jesus Christ at Calvary. He paid the price for us with no possible refund, but then gives us the choice to accept or reject His offer of forgiveness and to be a part of His family. At salvation we receive the Holy Spirit to live within us. His nature within us has the power to win the daily battles and temptations that Satan will place in our path. By faith we rely on Him to give us the victory over temptation, we can’t do it ourselves. It’s the grace of God that teaches us to turn from the Worlds’ view and practices and live our lives to please God. A true Christian may fail and backslide for a time, remember Peter’s denial of Christ. But he soon repented and was restored and used, the evidence is not just what we say but what we do, the normal pattern of living. Does one desire, strive to follow God’s directions to be a faithful follower. What is the difference from the average moral unsaved person? Does Christ in us show to others by our attitudes and actions. The quest for our daily lives is not am I satisfied with what I believe and live, but is God satisfied? “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world; and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 1st John 5:4-5 The hymn writer put truths on victory in the hymn ;
Encamped along the hills of light,
Ye Christian soldiers, rise.
And press the battle ere the night
Shall veil the glowing skies.
Against the foe in vales below
Let all our strength be hurled.
Faith is the victory, we know,
That overcomes the world..

His banner over us is love,
Our sword the Word of God.
We tread the road the saints above
With shouts of triumph trod.
By faith, they like a whirlwind’s breath,
Swept on o’er every field.
The faith by which they conquered death
Is still our shining shield.

On every hand the foe we find
Drawn up in dread array.
Let tents of ease be left behind,
And onward to the fray.
Salvation’s helmet on each head,
With truth all girt about,
The earth shall tremble ’neath our tread,
And echo with our shout.

To him that overcomes the foe,
White raiment shall be giv’n.
Before the angels he shall know
His name confessed in Heav’n.
Then onward from the hill of light,
Our hearts with love aflame,
We’ll vanquish all the hosts of night,
In Jesus’ conqu’ring Name.

Faith is the victory! Faith is the victory!
O glorious victory, that overcomes the world

The apostle opens this part with “whosoever” it’s an offer open to all, no one is left out of the invitation whosoever includes all people. Each man, woman or youth has a choice available for their eternal destiny. Titus 2:11 “For the grace of God that beingeth salvation hath appeared to all men.” Belief is not just mere assent to God’s truth that’s not saving faith. James 2:19 Tells us that even the devils believe and tremble but are not saved. True belief leads to actions, if you were in a building and you believed it was on fire you would not stay but leave and encourage others to leave also. Every Christian loves God the Father, Jesus Christ and all other believers. We may differ on many things but on the main fundamentals we will agree. Love beareth all things and endures all things. The Christian life begins with love, is lived with love and ends in love when we finally see Him face to face. Remember it starts with God loving us when we were unlovable, so why don’t we also love the unlovable as Jesus did us? Love is the evidence of the true Believer. In 1st John 3:23 “And this is him commandment that we believe on His Son Jesus Christ and love one another as he gave us commandment.” When we love God and one in the right fellowship with Him loving others would be easy. Remember we did not and do not deserve His love and He gave Himself to take our penalty for sin all because of His love for us. “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. Foe this is the love of God that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not grievous.” 1st John 5:1-3
And Can It Be that I should Gain
And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Actions speak louder than words a very true saying. The apostle reminds us that it’s not what we say but we do that confirms our professed belief. “If a man say I love God and hateth his brother he is a liar…” pretty strong words but true. The truth of what one says is confirmed by actions is a very clear fact here. The same is true in other areas the truth is revealed by ones’ actions.
People say:
I believe the Bible to be God’s Word. So with a message from the almighty, all knowing and Holy God, How much time do you spend reading and studying it?
I believe in the local Church. Do you attend regularly, regularly may not be the best word, but faithfully when they have services to teach and preach the Word?
I believe in a literal Heaven and Hell. What are you yourself doing to help redirect others from Hell to Heaven?
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and died for my sins. How does it really affect your life?
Just some thoughts we should consider personally and do our answers satisfy God’s desire for each of us.
“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar; for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.” 1st John 4:20-21.
Actions are the evidence that reveals the truth.
