Strength for living
Life throws at us many challenges, problems that can trouble us. As the psalmist says he’s in the dust, beaten down with life. He turns to God for hope and help, his confidence is that God will hear and teach him His ways. Then he will share God’s work in his life. As Christians we will gain confidence in God as we study His Word then share our testimony, what God has done in our lives with others. He ask God to strengthen him under the weight he is caring according to His Word. It starts with an honest appraisal of our own self physically, mentally and spiritually. To be strengthen one must be willing to go through the steps to reach their goal. To obey what we know and be teachable by God for more knowledge. To study the Bible ourselves, remember when others exercise it doesn’t help us physically. Then commitment on our part to the finish. When we meet Him face to face. “25 My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me ccording to thy word. 26 I have declared my ways, and thou heardest me: teach me thy statutes. 27 Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works. 28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word. 29 Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously. 30 I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me. 31 I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O Lord, put me not to shame. 32 I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.” Psalm 119:25-32

Begins with our desire for God to do what is needed for us, that our lives may be pleasing to Him.  We need to pray for knowing, understanding and obeying the Bible. It’s not just what is clearly commanded but going the extra mile to show our willingness to have lives pleasing to Him. Keeping our focus on the eternal future, that’s hard for us to do, daily we easily get side tracked with the current day by day task. We need a heart that breaks when we see His will being missed and ignored in ourselves and others. Some may hold us in contempt and rebuke us for taking a stand on the Word of God and against the current culture, both of believers and unbelieves. May His Word the bible be our delight and counsellors in daily living. “17 Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. 19 I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me. 20 My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times. 21 Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments. 22 Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies.23 Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors”. Meditate on the Word daily to draw closer to Him to be more like Him, remember what it cost Him to pay our penalty for sin.

Over the years we have seen many Christians some in leadership others not, fall into sin. This  causes much damage to themselves and others a tragedy that affects many for years and possible eternity. We need not concentrate on their failures but on how we can assure ourselves of not following the same path. It’s like a neglected house, a small leak allowed will eventually destroy the entire house. We have watched as an old farm house near us finally collapsed completely after many years of neglect it started with a little leak. Seven words in Psalm 119:9-16 give us directions on how to avoid a fall.  “9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 12 Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes. 13 With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth. 14 I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. 15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. 16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.”  Take note of the words as follows:  HEED, take heed pay close attention to and focus on the Word of God. WANDER, our sinful nature constantly draws us away from God’s will and way. WORD, know what the Bible says through personal study letting the Holy Spirit teach you. MEDITATE, deliberate concentration time spent thinking as you read a passage in the Bible. RESPECT, have a high regard and commitment to follow what the bible teaches on the ways of God.  DELIGHT, anticipation, pleasure of the opportunity of hearing the teaching of God’s Word and in our own study times, the thing we look forward too.  FORGET, the thing we should not do is forget the Word of God, forget our time alone with our Bible, forget the absolute importance of hearing the Bible preached, taught and studied. Let’s be committed to have a clean, consistent testimony as we live our daily lives and finish well.

The Blessed Life

The Blessed life

How to be blessed in life, some Preachers on TV tell us how to get blessings from God, it’s usually involves sending money. But God has given us the way to be blessed in life in His Word, it’s simple and plain. Be undefiled, the little things we allow can lead to our defilement. A small crack in the door is all that Satan needs to enter and destroy, like a small leak in the roof or a house in time it will destroy. By keeping His testimonies, obeying what Christ says in the Word and His desires not just the 10 commandments.  By seeking Him with our whole heart, that is commitment on our part. We have an inborn tendency to wander in our own way, that we must guard against and keep close. For now our black lab will run off but when called comes back at full speed. Our other dog would wander ahead but kept looking back to see where were. We need to keep check on our closeness to Christ moment by moment.

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.” Psalm 119:1-8

It’s amazing that the Almighty, all knowing God creator of the universe and all that is within, would yield to our desires. That we can tell Him what we will and will not do, and what He can and cannot do. He allows us to decide to love Him, or obey Him and to receive or reject all He offers to us.  “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15  “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9    He allows us to choose our actions and follow our desires, but He does not allow us to determine the outcome, the consequences.  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. –He that believeth on him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16, 18. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God “ 1 John 5:13.  The choice is ours to receive, love and obey but we can’t choose the results. Choose Him and His way today in all life’s decisions.
